Music

I have been playing saxophone since the age of 12, when the first night I got my horn I fell in love with jazz. Since then, I have made everything I do surround or supplement my love for jazz.

In middle school and high school, I was first alto player in the school jazz band. I played in the top bands at the Rialto Youth Jazz Orchestra, as well as travelling the Southeast as a gigging musician. I made lead alto saxophone in the GMEA All-State Jazz Band, auditioning with a perfect score.

I have been able to travel the world playing alto and soprano saxophone—Atlanta, Hilton Head, Eureka Springs, Nashville, and Athens in the United States; Melbourne in Australia; Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Beijing in China; and Seoul and Jeonju in South Korea.

I have shared the stage with award-winning musicians Wayne Bergeron, Mace Hibbard, Daniel Juarez, and Nicolas Bras. I have also opened for world-class musicians Emmet Cohen, Kurt Elling, John Pizzarelli, Sean Jones, and Joe Farnsworth.

I have served as the Head TA for Georgia Tech's Jazz History class since my freshman year of college (with a two-semester hiatus during my time at Peking University). Having been very interested in jazz history ever since high school, where I wrote all my school papers on jazz history. As Head TA, I am responsible for coordinating a team of 6+ TAs, delivering guest lectures, supervising review sessions, creating class material, and leading future operations for the jazz history team. Under my leadership and close work with Dr. Frank Clark, we have created the first online class offered by the Georgia Tech School of Music during fall and spring semesters, boosting enrolment by 5 times (from 70 my first semester to 360 in spring 2025)—currently the largest course offered by the Georgia Tech School of Music.
